How do I take Levitra?
Follow your doctor's direction. The drug can be taken with or without meals and should be taken with a full glass of water. Leviotra can be taken an hour before sexual activity and the effect of the drug is known to last longer than the other impotency drugs. For some people, the drug is restricted once every three days. What should be avoided while I am on Levitra?
If you are taking Levitra, do not use any other ED drugs such as alprostradil, Viagra (sildenafil) and yohimbine without consulting your doctor.
Avoid excessive drinking of alcohol as it can cause headache, dizziness and a drop in the blood pressure. Grapefruit and grapefruit juice should also be avoided as they are known to interact with the drug. If you cannot avoid grape fruit, discuss with your doctor about it.
You should immediately contact your doctor if you experience Chest pain, irregular heartbeat, swelling of the face, lips and tongue, dizziness, angina, nausea, numbness, swelling of legs and ankles, breathing difficulty and prolonged erection. These are some of the common side effects that come with Levitra.
Levitra also comes with lesser side effects like dizziness headache, stomach upset, runny nose and flushing. There is no need to stop the drug if you come across these side effects. However, you should have to discuss with your doctor if you have any of the symptoms.
Another uncommon side effect that you may experience with the drug is a temporary blue tint in your vision, which means difficulty in distinguishing the differences between blue and green colors. Though this is uncommon, if you experience any vision problem, contact your doctor immediately.
What drugs affect Levitra?
Levitra should not be taken if you are using the following medications:
- Alpha-blockers like Hylorel (guanadrel), Hytrin (terazosin), Minipress (prazosin), Cardura (doxazosin) and Flomax (tamsulosin).
- Nitrates such as nitroglycerin, isosorbide mononitrate and isosorbide dinitrate and also nitrates that are found in recreational drugs.
When Levitra is used along with these medications, it can cause a sudden fall in the blood pressure that can lead to dizziness, stroke or heart attack.
Before Levitra is taken, you should have to tell your doctor if you are taking the following medicines:
- Other impotency drugs like Viagra, alprostradil and yohimbine
- Erythromycin
- anti-fungal medications like itraconazole and ketoconazole
- drugs for irregular heartbeats like quinidine (common names Quinidex, Quin-Release and Quinaglute), procainamide (common names Procanbid, Procan SR and Pronestyl) sotalol (common name Betapace and Sorine) and amiodarone (common name Pacerone and Cordarone)
- HIV medications like ritonavir and indinavir.
If you are using any of the above-mentioned drugs, your doctor may not prescribe Levitra or may go for dosage adjustments.
Levitra should be stored at room temperature. Keep away the drug from moisture and heat.
